My wife and I had been married for 8 month when Elisabeth got sick. The pneumonia was an aggressive tumour on her lungs.

A few days before our first Christmas as a couple, Elisabeth got sick. She had high fever, coughed, we decided to see the Doctor, and it did not take long before the doctor suspected that something was seriously wrong. The doctors found a tumour on her lungs. The size of the tumour was about half a kilo, and it was growing. The doctors realized that they had to start the treatment at once. The actual treatment for this type of cancer is chemotherapy and radiation.

It was an unreal experience; it felt like the doctors were speaking to somebody else. Was this really happening to us? How is this possible? Cancer at the age of 28? Just 8 month after we married? The questions were many. The word cancer sounded as death in our minds! We asked the doctors to leave the room, Elisabeth and I prayed. She wanted a word from God before they started the treatment.
The Lord gave her
Mark 16:18
They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

At the same time, the Lord spoke to me Follow me, and I will take care of your wife

Faith is a choice

Our life turned upside down; we had planes for our future, expectations of what God will bring. Elisabeth started the treatment, and was very sick and weak at times; she lost all of her hair. She lost all her physical strength. In situations like this, you have to make a choice. You either choose to see around you and your circumstances or choose to have faith in the word of God.
Elisabeth had been to Bible school just the year before all this happen. She had learnt what the word of God said about healing, she learned how to pray, and put her faith in motion. It was a tough time, with a lot of prayer, and tears, but as a couple, we prayed together.

Our meeting with R.W. Schambach

Elisabeth was diagnosed in December 1991; by May 1992, she was very weak and tired. In that time, I was working as a crusade coordinator for Schambach Revivals. Brother R.W. Schambach had three crusades that I prepared for him, all this during Elisabeth sickness. When R.W. came to Norway, Elisabeth was barely on her feet. Waiting for him in the lobby of the Hotel, R.W. came into the room, where Elisabeth was sitting. She felt immediately how the strength came back into her body; she stood on her feet and felt how the anointing filled her, even before brother Schambach laid hands on her. She felt like a completely new person, she felt so well, that she travelled with us to Russia and helped in the meetings as an usher.
When she returned from that trip, she went to the doctors. She insisted they took a new X-ray of her lungs. They doctors were shocked of what they saw. The tumour was gone. I was in the room when the doctors saw the pictures, and they said that it was as if someone had removed the tumour by surgery and left a white scar.
I do know who did the surgery, the greatest doctor of all doctors, Jesus!

The miracle continues

One of the first things the doctors told us is that it will be difficult for Elisabeth and me to have children. Chemotherapy was very intensive and strong, and it might damage her womb.

After the therapy and during radiation, the doctors told us it was impossible for Elisabeth to have children, she was barren. Elisabeth and I, started to pray, we knew the word of God, and Elisabeth got a word from God, 1st Samuel, and the story of Hannah, how she asked the Lord to bless her with a child, and the Lord gave heard her prayers and gave her Samuel. Now we had a word that can carry us through.

In July of 1993, we visited R.W. Schambach in Buffalo New York, where he had a tent crusade. After the meeting, we went with him to his trailer, where he prayed for my wife. The prayer was a very special one, and I have not heard him pray this way, I was a prophetic prayer he said, I bless the fruit of this womb.

A year after while I was in the army, Elisabeth came back from the doctors with a picture of a new tumours, (the doctors though so!) However, after a while we got the news that blew us away. The tumour was a baby! Glory to God!

Samuel Olai Fernandez was born April 22nd 1995. However, God was not done with us yet. The bible says:
Eph.3:20
Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,
In October the 21st 1996, Elisabeth gave birth to Victoria Joy Fernandez.

Maybe you are in an impossible situation right now, and it looks like there is no hope for you.
Do not give up, God is a God of miracles, Life is not easy and fair, but remember God is good all the time.
